2027 is shaping up to be one of the most significant years for personal finance in Ireland in a long time. For employers, financial wellbeing is no longer a “nice to have” in the wellbeing calendar. It is one of the most practical ways to support staff through real change.
A new way to invest
The Government is introducing a new State-backed investment account. It is designed to make long-term investing simpler and more tax-efficient, and the key details are expected in Budget 2027 on 6 October. Billions of euro sit in low-interest deposit accounts across Ireland, so many employees will be asking the same question: is it time to invest, and how? Clear, independent education will help them understand how the new account compares with deposits, investment funds and pensions before they commit their savings.
Auto-enrolment is now a reality
Since January 2026, hundreds of thousands of employees have been automatically enrolled in MyFutureFund, Ireland’s new retirement savings scheme. For many, it is their first pension. Their questions are practical ones. How much am I contributing? What does my employer add? What happens if I opt out? And is MyFutureFund enough on its own? Employers are now contributing to the scheme, so helping staff understand it makes sense for everyone.
The cost of living hasn’t gone away
Price rises may have slowed, but the higher costs remain. Energy, insurance, childcare and housing continue to put pressure on household budgets. The good news is that there are proven ways to fight back. People can switch providers, audit their household bills, and claim the tax relief they are owed. Many people are leaving hundreds of euro unclaimed every year.
New risks, new skills
Financial threats are evolving, too. Fraudsters now use artificial intelligence to create convincing deepfake videos and to clone the voices of family members and colleagues. Stock market swings can unsettle anyone with a pension. Climate change is already affecting home insurance and energy bills. Knowing how to respond calmly and confidently is a life skill.
Planning for every stage of life
Irish people are living longer, and a longer life needs to be funded. At the same time, many mid-career employees are supporting children and ageing parents at once. Planning ahead, from pensions to Fair Deal to estate planning, can ease pressure on the whole family.
